The Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE) is the updated framework replacing the Early Career Framework (ECF) from September 2025. It outlines the structured support and professional development that must be provided to Early Career Teachers (ECTs) during their induction period.

Key Changes in the ECTE:

• The ECF-based training and induction will now be referred to as the ECTE.
• The framework integrates Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and early career development into a single, cohesive structure.
• Greater emphasis on SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), high-quality oral language (oracy), early cognitive development, and evidence literacy.
• Mentor training has been streamlined—new mentors will now complete training in one year instead of two.
• Training providers will offer diagnostic tools to help mentors tailor content for their ECTs.

ECTs and Mentors who started training before September 2025 will continue using the previous framework until August 2027, after which they will transition to the new ECTE structure if they haven’t completed their training.

The ECF is a government funded training and support programme for ECTs (Early Career Teachers) endorsed by the EEF (Education Endowment Foundation).  To view the framework, please follow this link.​

The ECF is a 2-year programme and offers ECTs a robust and supportive learning structure with a blend of online and face-to-face events.​
