Message from the Director of TSH, Emma Hatton:

This time of year always seems so busy, doesn't it? But at least we have glorious weather to help motivate us! (As I write, I can see colleagues running across the playground, rueful of the fact that they were fooled by a cloudless sky this morning. Without a coat, and certainly no thought given to an umbrella, they are reliant only on their hi-viz jackets to protect them from the unexpected shower...)

In TSH, we are spending lots of time planning for next year now.  There are opportunities for you and colleagues in all phases to work with us, and colleagues here at TSH have detailed some of these below.

In addition to this, there are a number of information briefings coming up, which I would like to draw your attention to. These information events are designed to help those of you who are currently working with us to have clarity around the next steps. They will be succinct summaries, and we would very much encourage your attendance.

I am excited to share with you that we are planning a TSH roadshow. We hope to meet lots of you on our visits, and hear from you what your priorities are. We are coming to a school near you soon! Watch out for more information.

Quality assurance work continues, and we hope to be in a position to share with you the case studies and other relevant materials in our next newsletter. We are especially interested in gathering evidence of longitudinal impact. Please get in touch if you would like to be part of this research study.

In the last newsletter, I shared with you that we are planning to distribute the leadership of TSH work. Plans for this are developing well, and I hope to be able to share more with you about this in July.

The team have been reading Peps Mccrea's "Developing Expert Teaching" and are feeling inspired about some of the essential ingredients of expertise. It's a really concise, and accessible read.

Thanks for reading, enjoy the rest of the newsletter, and don't forget your brolly!

Emma.

Summer 2023 Events:
As we approach half-term, we can reflect on the successes of more ECF events. A huge thank you to all of our April 2023 ECTs and Mentors, who have had a fantastic start to their course. The April 2023 online events were extremely well attended and it was a pleasure to see such enthusiastic and passionate teachers benefitting from valuable discussions with colleagues across the region. We hope you continue to enjoy your ECF course.

There are some events still to come after half term for the April 21-22 cohort of ECTs and the January 22-23 cohort of ECTs and Mentors, as well as the remaining catch-up events. Please click here for event information for each cohort.

Registration for September 2023:
The process for ECF registration for September 2023 ECTs and Mentors will be different from previous years. The DfE are making changes to their registration portal and are piloting this with a sample of schools across the country. The feedback for this will enable them to ensure a smooth process when registration opens to all schools. The DfE will stagger the registration process to avoid becoming overwhelmed and will invite you to register directly.

Registration for ECF will open from 3rd July onwards. To ensure the smoothest start possible in September, please be ready to register your ECTs at this time. Click here for more details on ECF registration.

Education Development Trust (EDT):
We are delighted to announce that EDT has received a positive Ofsted result following their recent inspection. We are very proud to work with an organisation which places such high value on developing 'resilience and self-efficacy' which consequently allow ECTs to "build the right foundations to support longevity in the teaching role". To read the full report, please click here.

Based on DfE changes and guidance, EDT are making some changes to the ECF Mentor programme for the 2023-2024 cohort. These changes are to support retention and workload and offer more flexibility. We are excited about these changes and will be providing concrete plans as soon as we can.

As always, thank you everyone for your enthusiasm and support with our ECF programme.

Emily
